Manchester City maintained their winning start to the Premier League season with a 3–2 victory over Ipswich Town, while Arsenal needed a late goal to overcome Nottingham Forest during the October 17–18 weekend.

Brighton delivered the biggest victory of these five fixtures, beating Crystal Palace 5–0. Chelsea won at Everton, while Manchester United dropped points at Leeds.

Weekend results

17 October: Manchester City 3–2 Ipswich Town; Everton 0–2 Chelsea.

18 October: Nottingham Forest 0–1 Arsenal; Leeds United 1–1 Manchester United; Brighton 5–0 Crystal Palace.

Haaland keeps City winning

Erling Haaland scored twice as Manchester City secured their seventh consecutive league victory. Ipswich remained competitive and threatened to take something from the match, but City held on to preserve their perfect record.

Haaland was denied a hat-trick by VAR, although his double proved enough to help the league leaders collect another three points.

Madueke breaks Forest’s resistance

Arsenal left the City Ground with a 1–0 victory after substitute Noni Madueke scored in the 80th minute.

His effort struck Jair Cunha and wrong-footed goalkeeper Matz Sels. It was Arsenal’s only shot on target, settling a match in which possession had produced few clear openings.

Forest threatened an equaliser late on, with Murillo curling narrowly wide and Ezri Konsa making an important challenge to stop Liam Delap. Arsenal finished the match on 18 points, three behind City, while Forest slipped into the relegation zone.

Brighton overwhelm Palace

Brighton swept aside Crystal Palace 5–0 in a commanding derby performance that moved them into third place, five points behind City.

Diego Gomez supplied a standout moment with a strike from around the halfway line. Fabian Huerzeler’s side had scored 23 goals in seven league matches after the victory, combining their attacking output with five clean sheets.

Neto double defeats Everton

Pedro Neto scored both goals as Chelsea won 2–0 at Everton on Saturday.

He opened the scoring just 43 seconds after the restart before adding his second in the 90th minute. The result ended Everton’s unbeaten league start and gave Chelsea their first Premier League clean sheet in nine months.

Leeds deny Manchester United

Manchester United took the lead at Elland Road through Bryan Mbeumo in the 35th minute, but Dominic Calvert-Lewin equalised six minutes into the second half.

The 1–1 draw extended United’s wait for a league victory since August. Michael Carrick’s side had managed one win, four draws and two defeats from their opening seven matches, leaving them searching for greater consistency.
