Accord’s Lagos State chairman, Oladele Oladeji, has asked the party’s national leadership to explain Governor Ademola Adeleke’s reported appointment to coordinate President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 campaign in Osun.

In an open letter issued on Saturday, 17 October, and reported by Premium Times/NAN on Sunday, Oladeji questioned what the arrangement meant for Accord’s identity, candidates and electoral ambitions. The report described Adeleke as having won election on the party’s platform.

Oladeji said he was seeking accountability, not challenging the authority of the National Working Committee. Although Adeleke was entitled to personal political choices, he argued, those decisions had consequences for the party that supported him.

He urged the governor to back Accord candidates nationwide and called for clear explanations of any cooperation with another party. Members, he said, needed to understand its terms, objectives and consequences. He maintained that he would pursue clarification through the appropriate party authorities.

Sunday Punch reported contrasting views among Accord figures. Presidential candidate Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim said Adeleke’s governorship victory did not oblige Osun residents to vote for Tinubu, citing voters’ independence in 2011.

Ogun chairman Rotimi Oke feared the alignment could weaken plans to expand beyond Osun. He said national leaders would meet to consider members’ concerns.

Delta chairman and governorship candidate Fred Obi defended presidential cooperation, arguing that it need not undermine legislative candidates. Gombe coordinator Samuel Chuwang said alliances could create opportunities where Accord did not field candidates.

Plateau chairman Ankara Umoru said no formal decision on presidential support had been communicated through the party’s National Executive Committee. Campaign council media member Segun Showunmi, meanwhile, told Punch that APC members and the appointed opposition figures would work together for Tinubu.

The appointments also drew support from Senate leaders. TheCable reported on 14 October that Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele welcomed the inclusion of Adeleke, Anambra Governor Chukwuma Soludo and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, describing a developing cross-party coalition. Senate President Godswill Akpabio portrayed the council’s composition as evidence of political inclusion.
